Fruit Mela – 280 Tons of Pineapple was sold across Bangalore City to help distressed farmers

In a single day 280 tons of fruits were lifted for distribution in Bangalore city with an intention to help out farmers and it proved successful.

The mobile “Fruit Mela” , a novel event is the brainchild of Vandhe Bharatham Foundation, a network of volunteers in association with Hopcoms, which has appealed to the citizens to buy at least one kilogram of fruits under the slogan `One fruit a day keeps Corona away', thereby helping the farming community which is under distress. The volunteers have been assisting Hopcoms by scheduling the sale of fruits to apartments across the city through the Bengaluru Apartment Federation (BAF) and Force-GW. It toured 198 wards of the city on April 25 and 26, with 400 tonnes of pineapple from Uttara Kannada and Shivamogga, grapes from Kolar and Chikkaballapur, and watermelon and musk melon from various other districts there about 5,000 tonnes of pineapples waiting to be marketed.

The sales of farm produce by getting farmers and consumers on the same platform, without eyeing any gain, it was lead to purely a service to provide market facilities. Bangalore corona warriors were greeted and thanked with a fruit packet by the sandalwood corona warriors team who are the backbone of this campaign organized by Vandhe Bharatham. More importantly around 90000 pineapple fruits, which contains high volume of Vitamin-C and ideal to combat the infection of COVID-19 distributed to warriors, ASHA workers, BBMP garbage cleaning employees and the poor & downtrodden freely in and around Bangalore city and this gesture made team feel satisfied about the task.
